Anima Vistas - The Romantic View of the World

Everywhere, in every present moment Life beckons to us when would we but forfeit our eyes fatally to an abyss of mysteries – “There is more of me to see, you could never have imagined!”

February 1981, Cleveland, Ohio, I ceased to measure my age according to the linear passage of years, and began to divest my inmost thoughts and feelings of history, cultures and civilizations. One may exist in this world for eighty years or more, yet shall one remain a fetus not fully formed, malnourished on anemic blood; for, ever has this world remained but a womb, lest it preserve an ossuary. A thousand acts of suicide – the killing of the ‘self’ – may one commit, and still bide a mass of breathing flesh pining for a world yet to come. There are everywhere and always glimpses of another world layered in this one, beckoning to be born connate with each of us through our labor.

Fine art photography, a major theme of which is the hidden landscape of the natural world, is the discipline of obtaining an inner impression, an Anima Vista - a deep and penetrating inward view to the core of the artist’s own individual existence, a counterpoint to this world of repressions and unrestrained violence against the ‘self”. Anima Vista is an impression of the passion which defines the fine art photographer as an individual striving to see himself or herself becoming a manifest corporeal expression of Love liberating conscious in this world.

Photography integrates into a process by which one gradually exposes to the light an original passion as it defines itself in ever resolving clarity and detail. And, hidden landscapes become metaphors for repressed emotions and visions of the artist’s full identity resolving in the light. Passion is the act of evolving, of becoming the truly revolutionary/evolutionary thing – the physical body of Love Itself breathing and sentient, and effectually real in this world, free from the imprint of persona. Hidden landscapes and repressed visions of transfiguration are presented here as Anima Vistas revealing a intensely passionate view of the world in which exist in every present moment the promise of the freedom to Love without restraint.

We, as artists, are the mediums through whom Life Itself achieves a consciousness and sentience, to transfigure mere breathing flesh into Love’s manifest expression in the world. Our every movement is ‘passion’; our vision is a deep and circumspect purview of an environment of another world’s promise resolving in every present moment in resplendent counterpoint to the historian’s decaying persona. There is no abstraction sagacious and surreal, abiding more than this one. Our passion is the testament to the Love we can become in the world if we but open the iris of our eyes to expose the visage of a new world yet to be born by our human Art.
